Torres del Paine, Chile
Since today we left our big backpacks in the refugio, Jenny and I moved quick back to the French Valley. I couldn’t believe that we made it so fast back to base camp. On the map, it said 2.5 hours but we made it in 1 hour 45 mins. We continued up to the French lookout and up towards Britanico. We weren't going to make the same mistake as last time, so we kept a close eye out for the stream crossing.
The hike up was challenging as it was mostly uphill with steep rock scrambles at the end. You couldn't see too much from the trails because they were in a forest, but it opened up near the top allowing us to see all the mountains and valleys. The view was incredible. It was amazing to be surrounded on three sides with giant mountains and then to look on the 4th side to see a beautiful valley opening up into a lake.
It started raining as we neared the top, so we ate our lunch quickly and started heading back down. We were glad we started back down when we did because the trail got pretty slippery with the rain on the rocks. It was a pretty long day, but we were happy we got to make it to the lookout!
