San Martin de los Andes & Bariloche, Argentina

Since we only had the car for two days, we made the most out of our freedom. We woke up earlier and headed down to Bariloche to spend the day. Bariloche is only 3 hours away from San Martin and is a bigger city with a few more things to do.  Even though all three of us had passed through there before, we didn't really have much time to go exploring.  There is a famous road that takes you through 7 beautiful lakes that are between Bariloche and San Martin, so we decided to take the longer, more scenic route.

We had heard from some of our backpacker friend's we've met, that there is a fun bike ride there, so we decided to do it.  The loop is called Circuito Chico, and it's an 18 mile loop around a lake with rolling hills.  We rented our bikes and got to biking.  We hadn't eaten lunch, but we heard about a brewery along the route, so we decided to hold off and eat lunch there.  Patagonia brewery was probably the prettiest brewery I have ever been to. It had an outstanding view of the lake with nice chairs to enjoy the nice weather, a cute biergarten and a beautiful entrance.  Once we walked in, we
all ordered different beers and went out to the deck to eat some lunch, relax, and enjoy the beautiful view.  Unfortunately, the brewery was at the beginning of the bike ride, so we had to get back on our bikes and finish the circuit.  In hindsight, I think I would have been just fine biking to the brewery and back.

We knew that it was rolling hills, but we didn't expect it to be so tough.  Tim and I had to get off our bikes and walk up the hills a few times because we couldn't make it.  Jenny powered through and got through most of the hills without getting off her bike....I guess all those spin classes she took really paid off.  Overall the bike ride was a lot of fun, but we made it back in one piece.

There was a place called Colonia Swissa which was a small artisan village with a bunch of vendors making interesting items. Tim bought a legit wood cutting board for a great price and we just wandered around for a bit. After Colonia Swissa, we drove back into the center of Bariloche to explore a bit more. and wander the shops in town.  Since we knew we had a long drive ahead of us, we didn't stay too long and left town around 6pm.  Most of the drive back was in the dark and it was getting foggy too. It was eerie. With about 30 minutes to go, Tim and I saw this giant elk next to the car. It was massive! Thank goodness it didn't pop out in front of us, or else all of us were going to be having a bad night. Tim got us back safe and sound and since everyone was super tired we all just went to bed.
