Pucon, Chile

The alarm rang at 4:30am for our 6am bus ride. Since we had a calm evening the night before, the wake up wasn’t too bad. We checked out of the room a bit later than we wanted and, right as we were checking out we found out that there is a fee for the stay that was not included. I stayed behind to pay while Tim and Jenny went to the bus terminal. I had to run to catch up to them. Once we got to the terminal the first bus ride was easy. It was only 5 hours and the border crossing was straight forward with no hiccups.  When we arrive to Pucon, our first task was to find Turbus to print our tickets for the overnight bus.  Unlike the rest of the cities we've been to with central bus stations, each bus company in Pucon had their own station...so we had to wander the town to figure out where the Turbus station was.  When we finally found the station, they were asking for a booking number, but the only email Jenny could find was the Paypal receipt.  After lots of phone calls and searching, Jenny eventually found the email in her junk mailbox.  Classic.

After getting the tickets sorted out, we thought we might try to do a day trip up Volcan Villarrica, the main attraction in Pucon, but all those tours left at like 6 AM so we were out of luck on that one.  Instead we just wandered the town, ate some lunch, hung out by the lake, and enjoyed the sunshine.  While we were hanging out by the lake, they had a bunch of boat attendants trying to sell boat tours.  He kept yelling at people walking into the park and blaring strange music.  It provided us with some great entertainment for the day.  Since we were taking the overnight bus, we figured we should get some dinner.  Earlier in the day we had walked past this thai restaurant/kiosk that looked amazing so we decided to walk back to it for dinner.  Unfortunately when we got back there, it looked closed, but lucky for us, the owner saw us and opened it back up for us!  We ordered 3 pad thais and got fresh lemonades with mint and ginger.  Dinner was fantastic!

After dinner, we went to the grocery store, bought some snacks and went to the bus terminal to wait for our bus. Once our bus arrived we dropped off our bags and boarded the bus.  We booked a premium bus which was a full 180 degree chair that lays completely flat. It was only 5 bucks more and since it was an overnight bus we thought it was a good idea to splurge.  The seats were even better than we imagined.  It was like flyhing first class.  We got blankets, a touch screen tv with a bunch of movies, a little sleep kit that included socks and an eye mask, and they gave us water bottles and snacks! We were spoiled and it was great. I would travel like that all the time. Tim and I watched the movie 'Creed', and we all went to bed.
